For the Love of Vintage Giveaway: Closed

Giveaway Winner:

One Happy Mommom
"I was always told as a young girl that "I was a old soul" I always loved vintage, from listening to old music from my mothers 78's & 45's...."
chosen by random.org

I know I have fallen off the blog earth lately. Tim and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary as well as his birthday on the 6th. On the 15th, we celebrated my 31st birthday.

For some crazy reason, my birthday brought me intense stress this year. I haven't ever felt that way about being a year older but 31 is entirely too close to 40. What's wrong with 40? I'm not sure really except that I'm certain people die somewhere after that. Midlife crisis? Possibly. No convertible...yet. I am really happy I lived through my birthday celebration and it was fabulous in fact thanks to my Tim. He knows exactly how to handle me by never taking me too serious. We had a weekend all to ourselves and it was truly wonderful!

Here are a few of my favorite vintage and handmade items in my studio. I love collages! It was my first time photographing my stash but I will definitely be doing more of this sort of thing in the future! I think I have found a new hobby. That's all I need right?

The Olivia Heiress Hat Pattern will be available for purchase sometime tomorrow! It will have sizing for adults as well in the pattern.

Where can you find everything?

My sister picked up the crocheted trim and the tiny pom pom trims for me in NYC at Purl and my niece gifted me the large pom pom trim for Christmas from Anthropologie. The fabulous earrings are from JewelryVixen on Etsy.

Wanna win a surprise box of ribbons, trims, and buttons from Purl and me valued at over $50? I will be generous.. I am in dire need of some serious destashing.

Just leave me a comment telling me about your love of vintage! Oh how I love to hear from you my friend!

Those photos are absolutely gorgeous...a feast for the eyes!! I am one of those people, as you are, that beautiful things make me smile and bring a sense of ahhhh. You know all the pretty, sparkly, colorful, monochromatic (just have to add this one b/c I love it!), lacey, ruffley, lovely treasures. And doesn't that pretty much describe all of your favorite vintage items? I love that vintage items have a history, that they belonged to someone's grandmother, that they have stood the test of time, that they are unique. And I love that the internet (something so modern) allows us to share them with the world!
Blessings!

What's not to love?! My vintage comes from my grandmother, Margaret. She loved to sew, embroider, and crochet. She would save her buttons, lace, and satin ribbon. Every little girl's dream to get into! I make little flowers for my daughter, Mary Margaret (she was named after both my grandmothers) and use the buttons and satin. I can't wait for my little girl to be old enough to enjoy these special treasures as much as I do!

I'm a writer, so when I see vintage I start writing. I love to make up the story to go with the item, if that makes sense :)

Vintage... so much character! I'm always drawn to old things that remind me of my grandmother!!It's how I decorated my daughter's room... it just makes me smile to see something slightly "tainted". I bought my daughter's dresser from this very sweet old lady on a local yardsale website where I live. I almost felt bad buying it from her. It was a dresser from 1927 and it was her oldest sisters...nobody wanted it in the family, not even her daugher who had just had a baby girl (apparently she wanted modern). So the nice old lady told me as I handed her my money "nobody else seems to want to keep it, so why should I?... I hope it brings you and your daughter many good memories". So sad and sweet at the same time!! Did Imention I bought this for my daughter before I was even pregnant with her?? Good thing I had a girl : ) Needless to say. My favorite piece of furniture EVER!!!

Your photos would look lovely framed in a studio. Gorgeous things you're hoarding over there ;)
My love of vintage is from my mother and grandmother. My sister totally skipped the gene. I would try on their clothes for hours. I love sitting and listening to stories from my 90 year old grandmother. She has so many photos of her when she was newly married and the clothes are fabulous. The trims and buttons and styles. It's been passed on to me for sure. Thank you for making me think of grandma tonight.

I love vintage because they were/are so unique. I also love getting a piece that was my grandmothers or great grandmothers & thinking of the onversations they had around it or how they wore it. Makes me feel a little closer to them too. When its a found piece I stil wonder how they used it, wore it or the convos they had around it!
Its funny how we made fun of what we had or our parents & grandparents had & yet love & want them badly!
Thank you for the opportunity to win some gorgeousness!

I am vintage obsessed. Very into the girly vintage as living in a house of boys takes it's toll on a young girly mama.
I hope to one day be able to fill our house with antiques, and continue to furnish and fiddle with vintage decor. The only room that i will leave "playful" is my boys bedroom, but even that will have a vintage spin on it. My partner often smiles at my grand plans and sometimes tells me no, but honestly, i will just do it when he isn't looking. Afterall the house is the woman's domain, isn't it?
I would DIE for some of your yummy vintage lovlies. We don't get the fantastic stuff you guys get in the U.S. here in Australia :(

When I hear the word vintage I think of all my grandparents antiques. When I visit them I love all the vintage items that feels their home. I love to listen to all the stories that go along with all their vintage items. I completely understand about turning 31! I turned 31 this month too and I am telling you it was a hard birthday for me too! The hardest yet. I don't know why, but I agree 31 is hard.

My love of vintage? Oh where do I begin. It is possibly the epitome of my stlistic existence. I grew up in a home where an antiwue urinal meant a unique hanging flower pot. I have always had vintage items around me. I can't imagine how, or why, anyone would wany a home that doesn't incorporate a piece of history. Some of my favorite pieces I own are my great grandmother's buffet, her day dishes (pink & gray roses), and this cross necklace of hers that has the Lord's prayer in the tiniest magnifying glass ever. I thought it was a bead for about three years.

Okay, enough blabbing because I could just go on & on.

Even as a child, I loved "vintage." I just didn't know to call it anything but "old." Haha! I've always felt drawn to things from a different era, partly because of the history, wondering where it came from and also for a longing of a time that I wasn't able to take part in. Vintage music, vintage clothing, linens, jewelry, furniture. It's all marvelous. :)

Vintage trims and buttons remind me of my Grandmother's and Mother's "stash". Great memories of sorting thru the trim, lace and ribbon, and beautiful fabrics, also pumping the foot pedal on the old Singer Treadle Sewing Machine for them. Your photos bring back memories of those days learning to sew and create. Oh to have some vintage passementeries in my "stash" would be delightful. From dottie at dottiestreasures@yahoo.com

Love your photos, so beautiful. I grew up surrounded by older people, grandparents, great aunts and uncles and I loved to hear their stories of life. Vintage always reminds me of the many loved ones that have passed on and reminds me of the beautiful legacies they have left for me. Just today my mom and I talked about her mother and she told me some stories of her wonderful life. For me vintage links the past and the present with all its beauty.

I love vintage because it brings back memories of snuggling under my grandma's handmade quilts. I'd spend hours staring at each pieced fabric and wondering where it came from. Grandma's old dress, my mom's baby outfit... Her quilts began my love affair of pattern and color and she lovingly taught me the art of emboidery. I also love the elegance and girly girl class of old hats and pins from her days of being a nanny and housekeeper in Chicago.

Sarah R. said...

Your photographs are stunning...definitely another hobby! :-) I love vintage because of its complexity and simplicity all at the same time. The simplicity in its appearance and complexity in the story behind it. I love vintage because it has come from somewhere and is going somewhere-the continuum. I love vintage because it draws me to another time and allows me to get lost in the thoughts from whence it came. And I love vintage because I am a true romantic at heart.

Heavenly Bowtique said...

Why I love vintage? Vintage items are classic and have a history behind each and every piece. It takes me back to a time when little girls were little girls, dressed in clothing full of laces, pearls and beautiful fabrics and prints. It reminds me of simpler times but most importantly it reminds me of my mom, her mom and the stories of her mom before that. As a child my mom made all of our dresses growing up and I remember the frilly dresses with the lace and the bows in my hair and I remember feeling like a princess just beautiful all the time. I guess I like that feeling that vintage bring beauty and timeless all wrapped up in one.

I think my love of everything vintage started when I was 7 and my mom and I bought a retro 1965 Scottie Camper. We painted it pink and white, and the inside was a french countryside, shabby chic type look. I was totally hooked from then on :)

I love everything vintage because of the amazing history and story behind each piece. It connects the present with the past in such a beautiful way and is a reminder that what is considered "old" still contains beauty, grace, and elegance.

I love vintage because it's timeless and elegant. It will never go out of style. It makes me think of my great grandmother and my grandmother's wedding pictures. I love vintage because it reminds me of a time where lux was an everyday thing for many people, and especially women never really had to worry about being "overdressed". The fabrics, cuts, and accessories were all so elegant and tasteful. No belly shirts or whale-tails to be found!

Erin said...

I just hear the word vintage and I'm immediately drawn to the item. I can't help but wonder all the memories of which it is a part. All the history it owns. Vintage to me screams classic. It's timeless. It's beautiful and needs to be celebrated.

kourtney.dyson said...

I love vintage because it reminds me of all things classic and good. It reminds me of my grandmother who used to say "every girl should have bangs, it makes it easier to flirt while batting your eyelashes" what that means I am not sure, but I loved that woman with every ounce of my being. Vintage says chic, sophisticated, poised, everything we want to be and hold on to. It is old black and white photos filled with people from my history. Vintage is, well vintage is where we came from, who are and who we hope to be. Vintage is like opening a time capsule and finding the most amazing treasures, that stand the test of time. I am not sure if 'i love vintage' or if simply 'vintage is love.'

Thanks for yet another wonderful giveaway!

My design style changes as often as the seasons, but my love for vintage remains the same. Even as a child I was romanticized by old movies such as Little House on the Prairie and Gone with the Wind. I would watch them over and over again imagining life in the “old days.” For me, vintage items are all about the story. I imagine where it’s been, what it’s lived through, who owned it, who cherished it, how did it find its way to me? Regardless of its age- vintage is beautiful. The older it is the more stories it has to tell.

Joy, you have many more years of collecting! Celebrate your early 30's, 40's, 50's, it is challenging but collecting gets you through.
Hope to meet you some day

I believe vintage is the heart & soul of every women. It takes us back to our ancesters, no matter who they may be, and reminds us of simpler times when our mothers or great, great grandmothers had to be creative. They took time to enjoy the feel and beauty of textiles and came up with the most amazing ideas of how to work with the materials they were given. When I start a new project I try to think, "what would I have done with this fabric 100 years ago?" To bad time machines don't exsist!

As a child I loved all things feminine and girly. I think it reminded me of my grandmothers time. (I even convinced my parents to cover the floor of bedroom in a giant print English rose carpet!) Through my teens I rebelled and became 'one of the boys'........ Since I have had my own daughters (5 and 2), I have come full circle and embraced my love of vintage once again. I am finding things (love the Internet) to reconnect and remind me of my childhood and grandmother, to share with my girls .... Now if only I could convince my husband to re carpet the girls bedroom.

It is probably my nostalgic, sentimental side that draws me to all things vintage. I am a girl that still hangs on to her tattered old bear with the blue button eyes and threadbare seams. Velveteen Rabbit is my favorite book from childhood, and I think that somewhere deep inside of me I truly believe if something is old and loved, it comes alive. When I see a vintage item, I imagine the story...a romance, a moment that has escaped but is somehow preserved in that item. Vintage imbues a sense of character; the integrity of a time gone by. Ah, I just love it! <3

I love vintage for the story each piece has, whether it be an earring or a ribbon it used to be someones and you never know if they fell in love while wearing a blouse that you now store away in a closet somewhere. What a wonderful stash! My favorite place as a child was my grandmother's magical stash closet! She recently sent me what remained after she lost her sight and had to give up her lifelong love of sewing. I have some amazing mink and the most intricate lace just waiting for the perfect project.
Vintage is a connection to the woman I cherish so deeply. She let me loose in her magical closet with a million dreams, and guided my hands on her antique sewing machine so I could make them come true. She just turned 95, and told me that one of the greatest gifts she has ever received was sharing her love of sewing with me, and the knowledge that I share that love with my children. Vintage is love in my family.
